Welcome to the site which
is dedicated to the work a group of volunteers and I are doing
to inform, educate, and promote peaceful means by which to
avoid, prevent, resolve conflict.
This
site is a repository for our work originally produced for
Olelo Community Television in Hawaii. The views and opinions
expressed in our work and through this site is purely that of
individuals involved and do not necessarily represent the
views and opinions of our sponsors which are ACR Hawaii and
MCP Inc. We thank them for their sponsorship and Olelo for the
use of their equipment and facilities.
My name is Leo Hura JD Mediator. I am producer of the series
and, when used, I serve as moderator for our interviews and
panel discussions. My biography, as well as those of the
volunteers involved in this series, are posted in the “Bios”
tab in the navigation bar above.
Our intent for this web site is to encourage the use of our
videos as educational tools and to encourage dialogue on
avoiding, preventing, resolving conflict through our chat
room.
What do I mean by avoid, prevent, and resolve conflict by
peaceful means? Where there is a relationship it is meant to
operate harmoniously to accomplish some purpose. It can be
business with business (owner/owner), business with client
(contractor/owner), or interpersonal (neighbors) meant to
achieve a state of harmony. That problems arise or
disagreements occur is quite natural to the human condition.
Our objective is to demonstrate and discuss how to establish,
maintain, and manage relationships to not only anticipate
problems or disagreements but to prevent them from leading to
conflict. Conflict can be defined as some action or
circumstance which influences our behavior towards each other
in a way that we start to build barriers, creates disharmony,
where resolution requires action to be taken to return our
relationship to a state of harmony. Unresolved, conflict can
and often leads to a deterioration or destruction of a
relationship.
Follow us in our search for creation of a collaborative and
resolution based culture and enjoy not only the educational
value of our episodes but also the entertaining way in which
the information is presented.
